Humane Trap Loans

Humane traps can be an effective and safe tool for recovering lost pet cats and for assisting with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for community cats. Simply Cats offers humane trap loans to support caregiver-led efforts in both situations.

Trap Loan Details

Traps are loaned free of charge for up to two weeks.

To borrow a trap, we require a $100 collateral hold as a guarantee of return. This is not a fee and no money is collected upfront.

Borrowers may leave either a check written for $100 or a credit card number to be kept on file. The check or credit card information is held only as collateral and is never charged or deposited as long as the trap is returned on time and in good working condition. All collateral is destroyed once the trap is returned.

• Borrowers are responsible for proper trap use, monitoring, and transport
• Traps must never be left unattended
• Traps must be returned clean and in good working condition
• Trap loans are time-limited to ensure availability for others

Improper use of traps can cause injury or distress to animals. If you are unsure whether a trap is appropriate for your situation, please review the guidance below before borrowing.

Trap Use for Community Cats (TNR)

Humane traps are commonly used to contain community cats for spay or neuter appointments as part of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

Before borrowing a trap for TNR, caregivers should:
• Have a spay/neuter appointment scheduled
• Review proper trapping and recovery procedures

Trap Use for Lost Pet Cats

Humane traps may be helpful when a lost pet cat is thought to be hiding nearby.

Traps are not always the first step in a lost cat search. We recommend using traps only after other recovery efforts have been attempted or when the cat’s behavior indicates trapping is appropriate.
