Rehome a Cat

How to Adopt

How to Adopt

By adopting from Simply Cats, you’re giving a homeless cat a safe, loving home and making room for us to help another. Your adoption truly saves lives.

Every cat adopted from Simply Cats has:
• been spayed or neutered
• been treated for internal and external parasites
• been microchipped
• been tested for FIV and FeLV
• received age-appropriate vaccinations

To help your new cat feel comfortable during their transition home, each adoption includes a small starter kit with a food sample, new toys, and a handmade blanket.

How To Adopt

What to Know Before Applying

To help ensure a smooth adoption process, please review the information below before submitting an application:

• You must be 18 or older to adopt.

• Applications are valid for 30 days.

• Kitten adoptions differ from adult cat adoptions. Details are outlined below.

• For the ongoing safety of the cats entrusted to us, all adopted cats must remain indoors.

• We reserve the right to refuse an adoption or recommend a different match if we feel it is in the best interest of the animal.

Step 3: Application Review

Applications are reviewed Tuesday–Saturday (12–5 pm). Most applicants receive a response within 2–3 days depending on scheduled appointments and volume. Please check your inbox, spam, and junk folders for our email response.

Step 4: Schedule a Meet & Greet

Our team communicates by email so they can assist adopters between appointments. Reply to our email to schedule your visit. Appointments give you focused time to meet cats, ask questions, and learn about their personalities.

Step 5: Finalize the Adoption

Once you’ve found your match, we’ll review their history, answer questions, and complete paperwork. Each adoption includes a small starter kit with a food sample, new toys, and a handmade blanket to help with the transition home.

Kitten Adoptions

At Simply Cats, we advocate for kittens to be adopted in pairs or into homes with a compatible, playful young cat. Research and guidance from feline behaviorists and veterinary professionals show that kittens develop best with another kitten companion. Having a same-age playmate helps support healthy socialization, reduces unwanted behaviors, and makes the transition to a new home easier for many kittens.

Adopting in Pairs:
• supports healthy development and socialization
• reduces the likelihood of behavioral issues
• provides companionship when their person is away
• reduces play-aggression directed at people and older animals
• offers comfort and confidence during the transition into a new home

Adoption Fees

Standard Adoption Fees:
• Kittens (up to 6 months of age): $90
• Teens & Adults (over 6 months and up to 9 years old): $80
• Seniors (10 years and older): $35

Reduced Fees for Senior and Veteran Adopters:
• Seniors for Seniors : $25
• Pets for Vets: $50

Purebred Cats:
• Purebred Cats (any age): fee varies
Purebred cats make up a very small percentage of the cats surrendered to us. Their adoption fee is higher to reflect their specific needs and the longer time they may spend in the shelter waiting for the right match. Purebred cats are exempt from special or promotional adoption pricing.

Return

While we work hard to make matches that last a cat’s lifetime, we understand that situations can change. If you’re experiencing challenges after adoption, please take the following steps:

Step 1

Contact our Adoption Team. We can provide behavior guidance and resources to help address the issue and keep the cat out of the shelter system whenever possible.

    Email the Adoption Team

If you’re considering rehoming your cat, please reach out to us first. In some cases, a trusted friend or family member may be a good option, and our team can help you determine whether that placement would be safe and appropriate for the cat. For the cat’s wellbeing and so we can offer support, we ask that adopters return cats to Simply Cats rather than surrendering them to another shelter or rescue.

Step 2

If the situation cannot be resolved, you’ll need to begin the surrender process by completing an intake application.

Once the application is received, an intake appointment will be scheduled. Cats must meet our intake criteria at the time of the appointment. Adoption fees are non-refundable, and all surrenders are subject to a surrender fee at the time of the appointment.
