Crisis Care FAQs

What qualifies as a temporary crisis?

Crisis Care is intended for short-term, unexpected situations that temporarily prevent an owner from safely caring for their cat. Examples may include medical emergencies, sudden housing instability, domestic violence situations, deployment, or other time-limited crises.

This program is not intended for long-term housing challenges, planned travel, behavior concerns, or situations where permanent surrender is being considered.

How long can my cat stay in crisis care?

Crisis placements are limited to a maximum of 90 days. Cats must be reclaimed by the agreed-upon end date.

Will I receive updates about my cat while they are in foster care?

Simply Cats will provide periodic updates about your cat during foster care when possible. Updates are shared by staff and may include general well-being information and occasional photos.

Direct contact between owners and foster families is not permitted.

Can I visit my cat while they are in crisis care?

For the safety and privacy of foster families, visits are not permitted during placement.

Can I provide my own food or litter for my cat?

Yes. Owners may provide their cat’s current food and litter if desired. Providing supplies during care is optional and not required.

Litter must be unopened, unscented, and in its original packaging. Opened or scented litter cannot be accepted. Litter boxes and scoops are provided by Simply Cats.

Cats in foster care are typically fed a primarily wet food diet to support hydration and overall health. Owner-provided food may be incorporated when appropriate; however, final dietary decisions are made by Simply Cats.

Can my cat bring personal items from home?

A limited number of clean, washable comfort items (such as a small bed or toy) may be accepted at staff discretion.
All personal items must be clearly labeled. Items may be discarded if they become damaged, contaminated, or unsafe. Simply Cats cannot guarantee the return of personal items.

How do i provide additional food or litter if needed during crisis care?

Providing additional supplies during care is optional and not required.

Any items must be dropped off at Simply Cats Adoption Center during scheduled times.

Direct contact or exchanges between owners and foster families are not permitted.

If I provide supplies, do I still need to play the monthly care contribution?

Yes. The monthly care contribution helps offset not only food and litter, but also staff support, coordination, and other costs associated with foster care.
Providing food or litter does not automatically eliminate the monthly care contribution. Partial reductions may be approved at Simply Cats’ discretion on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if I miss a required check in?

Owners are required to complete a check-in every 21 days. A check-in form will be emailed when due.  Failure to complete required check-ins may result in placement review under the Abandonment and Transfer of Ownership provisions of the contract.

What if my situation improves sooner than expected?

Simply Cats supports timely reunification whenever possible. Please contact the coordinator to schedule a confirmed pick-up date and time.996
