Volunteer Application

Make an Impact

Volunteers play a critical role in carrying out our mission. They fill a need that would otherwise have to be performed by paid staff. Whether cleaning the cat adoption rooms, doing laundry or assisting with special projects, our volunteers help Simply Cats spend its money where it matters – on the cats.

Before applying, enjoy reading the information below so you are informed of volunteer requirements and volunteer positions.

Volunteer Requirements and Responsibilities

• Must be able to keep to a regular, consistent schedule and must be able to commit to scheduled volunteer times.
Please consider whether or not you are able to honor this commitment before completing the application.

•Must be at least 12 years old to volunteer. Volunteers beween 12-15 years old must volunteer with a parent during every shift.

•Must be able to squat, bend, twist, lift and stand for long periods of time when working directly with the cats in our care.

•Must be able to work well with people – volunteer positions have exposure to staff, other volunteers and/or the public.

•Must be able to take and seek direction and have a self-motivated work ethic.

•Must be able to work independently.

•Must complete a volunteer application.

•Must attend an orientation.

If you are under the age of 16 and unable to volunteer with a parent , there are still many ways you can help, including: organizing a food/litter drive, raising funds or items for our shelter wish list, sponsoring a cat or making cat toys!  Please contact the Shelter Programs Manager for more information.

Simply Cats Volunteer Positions

Adoption Room Cleaner:
Volunteers clean cat adoption rooms (each which has approximately 8 -10 cats) every day of the week, before business hours begin. Cleaning a cat room consists of scooping and refilling the litter boxes, cleaning the counter and sweeping and mopping the floor. This position is by far the biggest need for volunteers.

Grooming:
Volunteer groomers will brush, comb, clip nails, and bathe cats as requested by the Simply Cats staff. Experience with cats is a must and experience grooming is preferred, although we will train. A good groomer would have cats at home, be patient, and would have a calm demeanor that would soothe cats who may be anxious about being groomed. In addition, a groomer would need to be comfortable following Simply Cats rules and procedures regarding equipment, tools, and cleanliness. Training includes an initial volunteer orientation with the Shelter Programs Manager, and a subsequent training session with a Cat Care staff member. Only volunteers over 18, please.

Shelter Care:
Shelter Care volunteers come in the afternoon, and do a variety of tasks as listed on the volunteer task board or as requested by staff. Duties include doing laundry, cleaning cat carriers and/or litter boxes, replenishing adoption room supplies, helping with special projects and much more!

Special Events:
Volunteers can assist with special events both within the shelter (e.g. a fundraiser event), and outside the shelter (e.g. a food drive), as needed. A good special events volunteer would be outgoing and love to talk to people, have a good knowledge of the shelter, is reliable, and able to problem solve and work independently.

Foster:
Fosters play a vital role in the success of the shelter.  Fosters provide a safe haven for our kittens that are not quite old enough or ready to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and they also help to socialize adult cats that might otherwise not be adoptable.  When you make the decision to foster, you not only get the opportunity to make a difference in the life of the cat that you are fostering, but you are also helping to save more cats by opening up additional space for new cats to enter our shelter.  If you are interested in learning more, please fill out a foster application either online or in our shelter.  If you have any additional questions please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
